KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 22, 2026 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) today unanimously appointed Terengganu Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri bin Mokhtar as the new Chairman of the coalition, effective immediately.
The appointment was made during an Extraordinary Meeting of the PN Supreme Council held at 3:00 pm today at the PAS Headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut here.
The meeting was attended in full by all members of the PN Supreme Council, including the four presidents of the component parties: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin (BERSATU), Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (PAS), Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau (Gerakan) and P. Punithan (MIPP). The meeting also approved Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin’s resignation as PN Chairman, effective from 1 January 2026.
According to the official joint media statement issued after the meeting:
“The meeting approved the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin as PN Chairman effective from 1 January 2026.
“The meeting then unanimously appointed YAB Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri bin Mokhtar as the new PN Chairman with immediate effect.”
The statement added that other matters would be brought for discussion and decision at the next PN Supreme Council meeting.
The joint media statement was signed by all four presidents of the PN component parties: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau and P. Punithan.
Ahmad Samsuri, who is also PAS Vice President and Member of Parliament for Kemaman, takes over the leadership of the country’s main opposition coalition from Muhyiddin, who has led PN since its formation.
