KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 2, 2026 – The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), through its Enforcement Division, has successfully arrested a Malaysian citizen and a Bangladeshi national known as “Geng Sojul” suspected of being key transporters for a migrant smuggling syndicate operating around Kuala Lumpur. The operation took place on 1 February 2026. Also detained were 20 foreign nationals believed to have been smuggled into Malaysia.
In the first raid, a 4×4 vehicle and an SUV suspected of transporting smuggled migrants were intercepted at the parking area of a supermarket in Jalan Kuchai Lama. Upon inspection, six men and one woman from Bangladesh, along with one Myanmar national (male), were detained.
A follow-up raid at a hideout and transit house located in a condominium in the Kuchai Lama area led to the arrest of an additional 12 Bangladeshi men. They are believed to have recently arrived from a neighbouring country and were waiting to be transported to various states in southern Peninsular Malaysia and the Klang Valley. All those detained are aged between 18 and 49 years old.
Items seized during the operation include two vehicles (a 4×4 and an SUV), several Bangladeshi passports, cash amounting to RM82,100, and foreign currency equivalent to USD3,700.
According to preliminary investigations, the syndicate has been active since December 2025. It provides illegal entry services for foreign nationals into Malaysia via third-country routes, entering through Kelantan before being moved to the Klang Valley and onward to final destinations. The syndicate charges RM12,000 per smuggled migrant and is estimated to have earned profits of around RM1.2 million since commencing operations.
All detained individuals have been remanded at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation.
The Immigration Department has vowed to continue taking firm action against any parties found committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passports Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
