Anwar Ibrahim Strongly Condemns Israel’s Interception of Gaza Aid Ship in International Waters

PUTRAJAYA,  MALAYSIA, Oct 8, 2025– Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed the strongest condemnation against the actions of the Israeli military, which illegally intercepted a humanitarian mission ship belonging to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens To Gaza (TMTG) in international waters, which also carried participation from Malaysians.

According to a statement from Anwar issued this morning, the incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. Malaysian time. He described the actions as “provocative and in violation of international law,” while emphasizing that the detention of a ship carrying aid for the people of Gaza is an “inhumane act” that violates the basic principles of human rights and universal human dignity.

Anwar demanded the immediate release of all Malaysian activists and volunteers involved, stressing that they should be given appropriate protection and not subjected to any form of mistreatment during their detention. “The MADANI Government will do everything in its power to protect every life of Malaysian children involved in this humanitarian mission,” he said, adding that his side will engage with friendly countries and international organizations to facilitate their release as soon as possible.

Anwar’s condemnation aligns with the international reaction to the incident, which involves at least eight Malaysians detained by Israeli authorities, where the ships were carrying humanitarian aid such as food and medical equipment for Gaza residents struggling with a crisis. The incident has also drawn criticism from other world leaders, including Israel’s efforts to deport activists, which has sparked global controversy.
