TANJONG MALIM, 21 July 2026 – Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is hosting the Association of Southeast Asean Teacher Education Network (AsTEN) Journal of Teacher Training Education (JTE) Editors’ Planning Workshop from July 19 to 22 at Scholar’s Suites, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, UPSI.
The international workshop brings together editors and academics from five countries which is Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam with the aim of strengthening the strategic direction of AsTEN JTE, enhancing editorial management quality and expanding scholarly collaboration among teacher education institutions across the region.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof Dr. Suriani Abu Bakar, said the workshop served as an important platform to strengthen international academic networks while enhancing the quality and impact of scholarly publications in the field of teacher education.
“UPSI remains committed to fostering strategic collaborations with regional and international partners through impactful research and high-quality academic publications.
“Initiatives such as this workshop are crucial in ensuring that journals under the AsTEN network continue to uphold global editorial standards and contribute meaningful knowledge to the education sector,” she said.
UPSI is represented by Prof. Ts. Dr. Wong Kung Teck and Dr. Anis Diyana Halim, while the delegation from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) comprises Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bukhori Muslim and Dr. Rini Solihat.
Representing Philippine Normal University (PNU) are Assoc. Prof. Dr. John Carlo M. Ramos, Dr. Marie Paz E. Morales, Dr. Adonis P. David and Dr. Adelyne C. Abrea. Also attending the workshop are Dr. Jessie Png Lay Hoon from the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and Dr. Hoang Mai Khanh from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam.
Throughout the workshop, participants discussed the current status and strategic direction of AsTEN JTE, reviewed editorial policies and publication standards, as well as explored approaches to improving editorial workflows and peer-review processes.
The workshop also focused on developing action plans and future editorial strategies for the journal. Discussions on the second day highlighted potential future collaborations among AsTEN member institutions and the strategic development of JTE for the 2026 to 2028 period.
Participants are also scheduled to formulate workshop resolutions and editorial action plans as a reference framework to guide the journal’s future growth and development.
The organisation of the workshop reflects UPSI’s continuous commitment towards strengthening international academic networks and supporting high-quality, high-impact scholarly publications in teacher education.
The outcomes of the workshop are expected to enhance the visibility of AsTEN JTE and reinforce its position as a platform for educational research exchange at both regional and international levels.
