PlayStation has officially revealed the release date for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a full reimagining of the iconic 1996 original that launched the legendary franchise. The game arrives on February 12, 2027 for PS5, with pre-orders now open.
Developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Flying Wild Hog and published by Amazon Game Studios, the title is built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. It modernizes Lara Croft’s debut adventure while preserving its spirit, expanding the original’s self-contained puzzle rooms into larger, semi-connected explorable environments filled with secrets, collectibles, and multiple approaches.
New Gameplay Highlights
During Sony’s recent State of Play presentation, a new trailer showcased stunning visuals and updated mechanics:
- Exploration & Traversal: Iconic locations like Peru’s Lost Valley, Greek ruins, Egyptian deserts, and a mythical Atlantis-inspired island come to life with fluid movement, dynamic environments, and revamped puzzles.
- Combat: Modernized gunplay and melee options feel more responsive and grounded.
- Atmosphere: Jaw-dropping UE5 graphics, immersive sound design, and cinematic set pieces honor the original while delivering next-gen scale.
The trailer also featured a returning villain: Jacqueline Natla, whose voice has fans speculating a possible Sarah Michelle Gellar performance. Lara herself appears in classic gear, dual-wielding pistols in signature style.
Editions and Pre-Order Details
- Standard Edition ($59.99): Full game + Survivor Outfit (pre-order bonus).
- Deluxe Edition ($69.99): Includes 48-hour early access, Parisian Fugitive Outfit, and a post-launch DLC Story Pack.
A Collector’s Edition with a T-Rex statue is expected to be announced later. Pre-orders are live on the PlayStation Store.
The game will also launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch 2 on the same date, marking a multi-platform return for the series.
A Long-Awaited Return
This marks Lara Croft’s first major new adventure in years. Originally eyed for a 2026 release, the slight delay to February 2027 aims to deliver a polished experience worthy of the franchise’s legacy.
Fans are already buzzing about the faithful-yet-fresh take on the classic. As one commenter put it: “The queen is back!”
