KUALA TERENGGANU, May 4, 2026 – The Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has approved the Rang Undang-Undang Enakmen Tanah Simpan Bagi Orang-Orang Melayu (Pindaan) 2026, marking a significant step to reinforce land ownership and development policies for the Malay community in the state.
In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Terengganu Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar described the amendment as “an important step in strengthening the policy of land ownership and development for the benefit of the Malay community in our state.”
Dr. Samsuri, who is also the assemblyman for Rhu Rendang and MP for Kemaman, added that the amendment serves as a strategic move to empower land development initiatives while boosting the role of relevant agencies in delivering essential facilities, particularly housing for the rakyat.
“More significantly, this initiative is implemented without any additional financial burden to the State Government, reflecting a prudent governance approach focused on the welfare of the people,” he stated.
The amendment, which updates the longstanding Malay Land Reservation Enactment, aims to facilitate smoother land development processes and greater participation from government-linked bodies in providing affordable housing and related infrastructure.
The development comes as Terengganu continues to prioritise community-centric policies under the Perikatan Nasional-led state government. Dr. Samsuri, an aerospace engineer by training and PAS vice-president, has positioned the move as evidence of efficient and welfare-oriented administration.
No immediate details on the specific technical changes to the enactment were released in the announcement, but the bill was tabled earlier and passed unanimously in the recent DUN sitting.
This latest legislative success is expected to support long-term efforts to protect and optimise reserved land for Malay economic and social advancement in Terengganu.
