BAGAN DATUK, Aug 5 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has extended an open invitation to residents of Bagan Datuk and the wider public to join Malaysia’s inaugural National Mosque Open Day 2026, which will be held at Masjid Tuminah Hamidi and Dataran Bagan Datuk from August 13 to 15.
In a post on X early Wednesday, Zahid, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, urged families and members of the community to take part in the free event. He highlighted the programme’s focus on showcasing the mosque’s role as a centre for worship, knowledge sharing, community unity and Islamic tourism.
“I would like to invite all residents of Bagan Datuk and those who are free to join in making the National Mosque Open Day 2026 a success,” Zahid wrote. The three-day event will feature special religious talks by Al-Fadhil Ustaz Habib Ali Zaenal Abidin Alhamid and Al-Fadhil Ustaz Habib Najmuddin Othman Alkhered, qasidah performances, street soccer 3×3, futsal, e-sports, azan and colouring competitions, khat (Islamic calligraphy) demonstrations, mosque tours, archery, brisk walks, sand art and other family-friendly activities.
The National Mosque Open Day is organised by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. It is the first nationwide edition of the initiative and aims to present mosques as vibrant community and cultural spaces open to people from all walks of life.
Official statements indicate the programme will begin on August 13 with spiritual activities, including a qasidah performance by the Nur Ahli Badar group and short sermons at the mosque. The highlight on August 15 will be a community festival at Dataran Bagan Datuk, featuring a brisk walk with actor Bell Ngasri, traditional games, sports tournaments and other attractions. Zahid is scheduled to officially launch the event.
Entry is free and open to everyone. The floating Masjid Tuminah Hamidi, named after Zahid’s late parents and able to accommodate up to 5,000 worshippers, was completed in 2023 and has become a local landmark along the Sungai Perak.
Authorities described the programme as part of efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a Muslim-friendly tourism destination while promoting inclusivity and appreciation of Islamic heritage.
