Kuala Lumpur, 02 September 2026 – Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) has officially launched its highly anticipated direct Kuala Lumpur–Phu Quoc service on 1 September 2026, marking the inaugural flight of the new route and opening a new chapter in air connectivity between Malaysia and Vietnam’s popular island destination. Operating one daily round-trip flight, the new service gives Malaysian travellers a convenient new way to experience Phu Quoc.
The first full-service connection between Kuala Lumpur and Phu Quoc
The Kuala Lumpur – Phu Quoc route has a flight time of approximately 95 minutes each way. Flight 9G751 departs Phu Quoc at 1:45 PM and arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 4:20 PM local time. In the opposite direction, flight 9G750 departs Kuala Lumpur at 5:20 PM and arrives in Phu Quoc at 5:55 PM local time.
On the new route, SPA continues to deliver its “Resort in the Sky” experience, with complimentary checked baggage, a light meal and beverages included in the fare. The airline’s new-generation cabin features wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE), while the signature La Festa fragrance, specially created for the five-star La Festa Phu Quoc, Curio Collection by Hilton, contributes to SPA’s distinctive onboard experience. For passengers departing from Phu Quoc, the journey is further enhanced through services within the Sun Group ecosystem, including hotel check-in and access to the premium Sun Executive Lounge.
Passengers travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Phu Quoc with SPA can also enjoy a range of privileges across Sun Group’s premium hospitality, dining and entertainment ecosystem. By retaining their SPA boarding pass, passengers can receive a complimentary Sun World Hon Thom cable car ticket, enjoy WOW Pass priority access at Sun World Hon Thom, and receive discounts of up to 30% at participating resorts, dining venues and entertainment attractions within the Sun Group ecosystem.
Also from 1 September 2026, SPA introduces its “Hello Vietnam. Stay Connected!” programme, offering eligible international passengers a complimentary 5GB eSIM to help them stay connected immediately upon arrival in Vietnam. Each eligible passport holder may receive one complimentary eSIM within a 30-day period, subject to programme terms and conditions.
A new connection supporting two-way tourism flows between Vietnam and Malaysia
Inaugural flight celebrations for the Phu Quoc – Kuala Lumpur service are held at both airports. In Kuala Lumpur, Tourism Malaysia leads activities welcoming the inaugural flight, with participation from representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia, while also sending representatives to attend the launch event in Phu Quoc.
The activities at both ends of the route reflect the coordination among stakeholders in strengthening air connectivity, supporting two-way travel and tourism flows, and expanding tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia as the country advances its Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

During the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam welcomed 369,350 Malaysian visitors, an increase of 21.6% year on year. Passenger traffic on the Kuala Lumpur – Phu Quoc sector reached approximately 70,400 passengers, equivalent to 76% of the total traffic recorded for the whole of 2025. The new service provides Malaysian travellers with another direct option to reach Phu Quoc, while also making travel to Kuala Lumpur more convenient for Vietnamese passengers.
As part of SPA’s hub-and-spoke network strategy centred on Phu Quoc, the Kuala Lumpur – Phu Quoc service strengthens direct connectivity with Malaysia while creating further opportunities to attract international travellers seeking to combine Kuala Lumpur and Phu Quoc in a multi-destination itinerary. With a short flight time, Phu Quoc’s visa-free policy of up to 30 days and Sun Group’s expanding hospitality and tourism ecosystem, the island has favourable conditions to attract travellers from Malaysia and other international markets in the region.
Kuala Lumpur becomes SPA’s seventh international destination, following Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Chengdu and Bangkok. In 2026, the airline plans to expand its fleet to 32 aircraft, including four Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft, providing a stronger foundation for further medium- and long-haul network expansion and the continued implementation of its “Rise to the World” strategy.
