BANGI, Oct 24 (Bernama)Selangor is targeting RM90 billion in investments this year, up from RM80 billion last year, amid strong investment momentum and efforts to strengthen its economic competitiveness.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government remained confident of attracting more domestic and foreign investments by providing a conducive business environment.
The state recorded RM70 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2026, prompting the government to raise its annual target.
Selangor remains one of Malaysia’s leading investment destinations, particularly in the manufacturing and services sectors.
“We are targeting RM90 billion in investments this year based on Selangor’s potential and investment performance,” he said when officiating the MADANI Kita Komuniti Sungai Ramal programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan 3, Bandar Baru Bangi, today.
Amirudin said Selangor contributed 26.5 per cent to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP), with its economy valued at an estimated RM460 billion.
The state’s economy is expected to reach RM500 billion within the next two years.
He said overseas investment missions to countries including France, Germany, Saudi Arabia and South Korea had also supported the state’s investment drive.
However, Amirudin stressed that economic growth must translate into tangible benefits for the people, including job opportunities and measures to help them cope with the rising cost of living.
He said the state government continued to review its programmes and improve service delivery to ensure development benefited communities across all ethnic backgrounds.
“For the state government, investments are not merely about the numbers. What matters most is how economic growth can benefit the people,” he said.
Selangor is also prioritising high-technology sectors, the digital economy and high-value-added industries to strengthen its competitiveness and attract quality investments.
