ANKARA, June 13, 2026 – President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan released a video message Saturday wishing success to Türkiye’s national football team, known as #BizimÇocuklar (Our Boys), as they prepare for their first FIFA World Cup appearance in 24 years.
In the message, posted on his official X account, Erdoğan emphasized national unity behind the team:
“Even if you are thousands of kilometers away, hearts across Türkiye—in every home, every street, and every square—will beat with you. Now is the time to write a new epic. May your path be open, and may every shot you take find the net. #BizimÇocuklar”
The nearly two-and-a-half-minute video shows Erdoğan standing at a podium, wearing a red scarf emblazoned with Turkish flags, flanked by Turkish flags in a formal setting. He speaks directly to the players, highlighting the excitement sweeping the country from Edirne to Kars.
Türkiye qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, after a strong campaign. The team, coached by Vincenzo Montella, opens Group D against Australia on June 14 in Vancouver. The squad features top talents including Hakan Çalhanoğlu (Inter), Arda Güler (Real Madrid), and Kenan Yıldız (Juventus).
This marks Türkiye’s return to the World Cup since their memorable third-place finish in 2002. Fans and officials have expressed high hopes, with nationwide support events and a special send-off convoy for the team.
Erdoğan’s message aligns with broader national mobilization, including a new team anthem titled “Siz Hepiniz Biz Türkiye” (You Are All Us, Türkiye), released by the AK Party’s media division, featuring imagery of national pride, achievements, and unity.
The post has garnered significant engagement on social media, reflecting widespread excitement and patriotism as the Crescent Stars aim to make history on football’s biggest stage.
