SURABAYA — Two of Indonesia’s biggest Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) names, ONIC Esports and EVOS, are out of the MPL Indonesia (MPL ID) Season 18 playoffs after losing their opening matches at the Jatim International Expo in Surabaya, East Java, on November 4, 2026.
The first round of the playoffs is single elimination, so neither side gets a second chance in the lower bracket.
Alter Ego beat ONIC 3-1
ONIC made the better start, taking a long opening game of just over 24 minutes. Alter Ego then took control and won the next three games in a row, closing out the series with a game four that lasted under 12 minutes, according to Medcom.
Alter Ego’s gold laner Dingarai was named Player of the Match after an impressive display across his team’s three wins, Medcom reported.
The win sends Alter Ego into the second round, where they face Natus Vincere (NAVI) on November 5, 2026. NAVI received a bye to the second round after finishing second in the regular season.
Bigetron come back to edge EVOS 3-2
The evening match went the full five games. Bigetron by Vitality (BTR) won game one, but EVOS levelled the series and then took game three to move to match point at 2-1, Indonesian news agency ANTARA reported.
BTR fought back to win the last two games and seal a 3-2 victory. Mid laner Marcel Juan “Moreno” Sinulingga, who starred on Selena in game four, was named Player of the Match.
“Our mindset was to take it step by step. We were behind 1-2 after game three, but as long as a best of five is not over, it is not over for us. We still have to play and we have to win,” Moreno said after the match, as quoted by ANTARA.
Bigetron will next meet Team Liquid ID, who topped the MPL ID Season 18 regular season and went straight into the upper bracket.
What comes next
Four teams remain in the race for the MPL ID Season 18 title: Alter Ego, Bigetron by Vitality, NAVI and Team Liquid ID. Both second-round matches on November 5, 2026 are best of five, with NAVI against Alter Ego in the afternoon and Team Liquid ID against Bigetron in the evening.
The winners meet in the upper bracket final, while the losers drop to the lower bracket and stay in contention. The MPL ID champion also earns a place at the M8 World Championship, according to Medcom.
The early exits are a major blow for ONIC and EVOS, two of the most decorated and widely followed clubs in Indonesian MLBB, and leave the season’s title race wide open.
