VANCOUVER, November 4, 2026 — Cameras are rolling on Icebreaker, Netflix’s series adaptation of Hannah Grace’s bestselling hockey romance novel, the streamer shared on X.
“It’s time to hit the ice! ICEBREAKER, a new Netflix series based on the best-selling novel, is now in production,” Netflix posted, alongside a short video of the lead cast on set.
Daisy Jelley, known for Geek Girl and How to Have Sex, plays Anastasia “Stassie” Allen, a competitive figure skater with her eyes on Olympic gold. Newcomer Connor Simos plays Nate Hawkins, a college hockey star who is equally determined to turn professional, according to Netflix’s Tudum site.
Ambition or attraction
The story begins when an accident forces Stassie’s skating team and Nate’s hockey team to share a single campus rink. Netflix’s logline describes her as “the transfer gunning for Olympic gold” and him as “the campus star chasing the NHL”, adding that “discipline gives way to obsession, because the only thing more dangerous than wanting to win is wanting each other.”
The wider cast includes Gabriel Tierney (Rivals) as Aaron, Moana star Auliʻi Cravalho as Lola, professional athlete Peter Berry as Robbie, Chaneil Kular (Sex Education) as JJ, Devin Craig as Henry and Aidan Shaw (Heated Rivalry) as Russ. Henry and Russ lead the later books in Grace’s series.
Filming in Vancouver is scheduled to run until February 2027, according to the Canadian production site Hollywood North Buzz. No release date has been announced. Netflix gave the project the green light on June 15, and the two leads were announced in September, TV Insider reported.
A BookTok phenomenon
Icebreaker is the first book in Grace’s three-part Maple Hills series. Netflix says the novel spent 70 consecutive weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold nearly five million copies worldwide, helped by a huge following on BookTok. Deadline reported that sales across the trilogy have passed 7.5 million copies.
Jade Halley Bartlett, whose credits include Road House and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, created the series, while Amanda Lasher of Gossip Girl and The Bold Type is showrunner and writer. Both executive produce with Grace and with Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre of Cooper’s Unwell Productions.
“I love this genre, and it’s been a joy working with Jade, the team at Unwell, and Netflix,” Lasher told Tudum. The series joins a wave of hockey romance adaptations following the success of Heated Rivalry and Off Campus.
