PUTRAJAYA April 17, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today chaired a high-level meeting with Bumiputera investment institutions to review more decisive and effective steps towards realising the Bumiputera empowerment agenda, in line with the Ekonomi MADANI framework.
In a statement posted on his official X account, the Prime Minister emphasised that Ekonomi MADANI seeks to raise the country’s growth potential ceiling, uplift the living standards of the people, and drive reforms with a strong focus on good governance.
“The involvement of the private sector and entrepreneurs is crucial in ensuring that the growth achieved is meaningful, sustainable, and felt widely by the people,” he said.
Anwar stressed that the focus must shift from mere discourse to actual implementation through appropriate policies that meet the demands of the times and the needs of the rakyat. To this end, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Finance will follow up with all relevant institutions to set key initiatives and deliver quarterly progress reports.
Among the top priorities highlighted by the Prime Minister were accelerating and intensifying investments in Bumiputera small and medium enterprises (SMEs), including stronger support for high-potential companies so they can grow faster and become more competitive. The government also aims to see more Bumiputera firms advance, with a specific target of 10 new IPOs on Bursa Malaysia for the period 2026 to 2027.
He further underlined the importance of human capital development in a rapidly changing world, calling for the continued expansion of high-wage Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, greater job opportunities, and enhanced social mobility, especially for the poor and young people.
“The Bumiputera agenda cannot end at seminars and announcements. It must be translated into real results, opportunities, and achievements that are enjoyed by the majority of the people,” Anwar declared.
The roundtable session, officially titled “Sesi Meja Bulat Bersama Agensi Pembangunan Bumiputera”, was attended by senior officials and representatives from key Bumiputera development agencies. Official photographs released alongside the statement show the Prime Minister addressing participants in a formal conference setting at the Prime Minister’s Office complex.
The meeting underscores the government’s continued commitment to inclusive economic growth under the #MalaysiaMADANI, #MADANIbekerja, #YakinMADANI, and #EkonomiMADANI initiatives.
