KUALA LUMPUR, November 6, 2026 – The public has been warned about scammers impersonating Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) through fake websites and malicious applications designed to steal personal and banking information, Bernama Business reported.
In a post shared on X on Friday, Bernama Business summarised the alert under the headline “Scammers Using Fake Websites, Malicious Apps To Impersonate BNM”, linking to its full report.
According to Bernama, BNM said on its official X account: “A website may look official, but that doesn’t mean it’s genuine. Beware of scammers impersonating BNM through fake websites and malicious apps to steal your personal and banking information.”
Verify at the official portal
BNM urged the public to stay vigilant and to check suspicious information through its official verification portal at bnm.gov.my/verify, Bernama reported.
Impersonation of regulators and banks is a recurring scam pattern in Malaysia, often using lookalike domains, cloned apps and urgent messages that press victims to hand over passwords, one-time codes or remote-access rights. BNM’s verification portal is intended as a single place to confirm whether a site, app or message claiming to be from the central bank is genuine.
The Bernama Business report is a short wire summary of BNM’s public warning. It does not name specific fake domains or apps in the text carried by BernamaBiz. Members of the public who receive unexpected requests for banking details purporting to come from BNM are advised to ignore the request, not click unfamiliar links, and use the official verify page before responding.
Bank Negara Malaysia is Malaysia’s central bank and supervisor of financial institutions. Alerts about fake BNM websites and apps are part of its consumer-protection messaging alongside other fraud warnings issued through its website and social channels.
