SEREMBAN, May 6, 2026 – Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun today declared that the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led state government is no longer operating as a minority administration, bringing an end to political uncertainty that began in late April.
“Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan kini bukan lagi kerajaan minoriti,” Aminuddin stated during a press conference, as captured in a video shared widely on social media.
The announcement comes after a period of instability triggered on April 27, when all 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen, primarily from UMNO, withdrew their support for Aminuddin amid a dispute involving the state’s royal institution. This left the PH coalition — holding 17 seats (5 PKR, 11 DAP, and 1 Amanah) in the 36-seat State Legislative Assembly — short of the 19 seats needed for a simple majority.
Despite the loss of support, Aminuddin continued in his role as Menteri Besar following a decree from the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, who instructed the administration to remain in place until the matter of majority support was clarified. The ruler’s decision allowed the PH-led government to operate as a minority administration in the interim.
Recent developments indicate that the 14 BN assemblymen have since agreed to remain within the Unity Government framework, restoring full support to the PH-BN coalition. Together, PH and BN now command 31 seats, delivering a clear and stable majority. Perikatan Nasional (PN) holds the remaining five seats.
The restoration of majority support reflects ongoing efforts to prioritise political stability and public welfare, as emphasised by UMNO leaders in recent statements. No state election or vote of no confidence in the assembly was required to resolve the situation.
Aminuddin, who is also a PKR vice-president and Negeri Sembilan PH chief, has not provided further details on the exact mechanisms or agreements that led to the regained majority, but today’s declaration signals a return to normal governance.
The development is expected to ease concerns over governance in the state and strengthen the PH-BN unity government at both state and federal levels.
