KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, July 2, 2025 — A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, at 2:26 PM today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

The quake occurred at coordinates 29.1° North, 129.5° East, approximately 300 km south of Kagoshima, Japan, at a shallow depth of 10 km.
