KUALA LUMPUR, November 5, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has again urged Melaka voters to back Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state election, saying the coalition has chosen to embrace the combined strength of the Malay, Chinese and Indian communities at a time when it is confronting narrow racial sentiment.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday night, November 4, Anwar, who is also PH chairman, said HARAPAN was fielding candidates who were credible, clean and trustworthy, to carry the voice of the people and shoulder responsibility in Melaka. “Therefore, with deep humility, I appeal to the people of Melaka to give their trust to the HARAPAN team, which offers hard work, leadership with integrity and a proven track record to defend the people and develop the state,” he wrote in Malay.
He closed with a prayer: “May Allah illuminate the hearts of brothers and sisters in making their choice, and give HARAPAN the strength to serve to the best of its ability.” The post carried the hashtags #UndiHARAPAN and #MelakaRumahKita, the latter echoing the coalition’s ‘Melaka Rumah Kita’ (Melaka, Our Home) campaign theme and manifesto.
The message repeats the appeal Anwar made in a post a day earlier, but this time it was accompanied by campaign posters for three different PH candidates. They are Datuk Azman Abidin in Paya Rumput (N.13), who is candidate number three on the ballot; Farzana Hayani, also known as Nana, in Klebang (N.14), candidate number one; and Jason Tze-Xi Nathan in Pengkalan Batu (N.15), candidate number three.
Each poster carries the words “Undilah Calon Pakatan Harapan” (Vote for the Pakatan Harapan candidate) and a sample ballot marked against the HARAPAN logo, a common feature of campaign material that shows voters where their chosen candidate appears on the ballot paper.
The three seats sit in the central part of the state around Melaka City. Two of them feature in the Prime Minister’s own campaign schedule for Thursday, November 5, which includes a Jelajah Aspirasi MADANI programme in the Klebang state constituency and a ‘Melaka Rumah Kita’ meet-and-greet session with voters in Paya Rumput, according to a schedule poster Anwar shared separately on X.
Race has become one of the recurring themes of the campaign, with PH leaders presenting the coalition’s line-up of candidates from different communities as a contrast to what Anwar described as narrow racial sentiment. PH unveiled its ‘Melaka Rumah Kita’ manifesto on November 3, setting out three pillars and 12 aspirations for the state.
The 16th Melaka State Election will decide all 28 seats in the State Assembly. Nomination day was held on October 31, early voting is set for November 10 and polling day is November 14, 2026, according to the Election Commission. In the 2021 state election, Barisan Nasional won 21 seats, PH five and Perikatan Nasional two.
PH initially named 21 candidates at the launch of its Melaka election machinery on October 24, with PKR taking nine seats, DAP seven and Amanah five, Bernama reported. A total of 687,697 voters are eligible to cast their ballots, according to the Election Commission.
This story is based on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s post on X. Candidate numbers are from Bernama, election details are from the Election Commission as reported by RTM and Utusan Malaysia, and the 2021 results are from CNA.
