KUALA LUMPUR, November 5, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is in Melaka today (November 5) for an official function at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), followed by a string of Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign events as the state election enters its final stretch.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday night, November 4, Anwar said that, God willing, he would travel to Melaka for several programmes in the historic state. “I will go to Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka first to meet educators and students at an official event, before heading to several other areas to build up the HARAPAN wave in Melaka,” he wrote in Malay.
He invited supporters to turn up in large numbers, adding a light-hearted note: “Come in big numbers and we will meet there. If there’s time, we’ll have asam pedas together,” referring to the tangy, spicy fish stew that is one of Melaka’s best-known dishes. The post was tagged #MelakaRumahKita and #UndiHARAPAN.
A schedule poster attached to the post lists five programmes for Thursday. The day begins at 2.30pm with the Majlis Anugerah Tangan Emas Perdana Menteri (MATEPM) 2026, the Prime Minister’s Golden Hands Awards ceremony, at the Dewan Canselor of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia.
At 4.45pm, Anwar is scheduled to attend a Jelajah Aspirasi MADANI programme in the Klebang state constituency at Jalan Teruna Tampan 1, Taman Bukit Rambai. A ‘Malam Harapan’ event follows at 7.30pm at Dewan Pay Fong, SM Pay Fong.
At 8.30pm, he is due at a ‘Malam Ramah Mesra Melaka Rumah Kita bersama PMX’ meet-and-greet session for the Paya Rumput constituency at Taman Seri Kerubong, Paya Rumput. The final stop, at 9.30pm, is the Majlis Sambutan Sinar Deepavali MADANI, a Deepavali celebration at Dewan Besar Kampung Permai, Machap Umboo.
The visit comes in the second week of campaigning for the 16th Melaka State Election, in which all 28 State Assembly seats are being contested. PH is contesting under its ‘Melaka Rumah Kita’ banner, and on the same evening Anwar shared a separate appeal urging Melaka voters to back the coalition’s multiracial line-up of candidates.
The Election Commission has fixed November 10 for early voting and November 14, 2026 as polling day, with the campaign period ending at 11.59pm on November 13. The Deepavali stop in Machap Umboo also comes days before the festival of lights, which falls during the campaign period.
UTeM is a technical university focused on technical and vocational education and training (TVET). In August, it received the Graduate Employability Excellence Award at the Malaysia Education & TVET Awards (META) 2026, while its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Ts. A total of 687,697 voters are eligible to take part in the election, according to the Election Commission.
This story is based on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s post on X and the programme schedule he shared. Election details are from the Election Commission as reported by Utusan Malaysia and RTM, and UTeM details are from the university.
