CYBERJAYA, April 27, 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from an individual to assist in investigations into the uploading of extremely offensive content with 3R elements targeting His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj.
In an official media statement issued today, MCMC said it is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on the case involving highly derogatory content posted against the Sultan.
The individual is the administrator of the Facebook account HuaYan The Pureland Learning Centre. MCMC took his recorded statement at its headquarters in Cyberjaya earlier today.
MCMC is investigating the matter under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum penalty of a RM500,000 fine, imprisonment of up to two years, or both upon conviction.
PDRM is conducting its probe under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 504 of the Penal Code. Both provisions provide for a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both upon conviction.
MCMC stressed that it views the dissemination of such highly offensive content against the Royal Institution very seriously, as it can undermine public confidence as well as societal harmony and order.
“The public is reminded to use social media ethically and responsibly. Any offensive, seditious or defamatory content — especially those involving the Royal Institution — will face strict legal action,” the statement added.
A photo released together with the statement shows the individual being interviewed by MCMC Enforcement officers at the commission’s Cyberjaya office.
This is the latest in a series of stern warnings by authorities against online content that touches on sensitive 3R issues in Malaysia.
