CYBERJAYA, 24 April 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from yet another individual suspected of spreading fake news claiming that Malaysia is supplying diesel to the Philippines.
The suspect, accompanied by his lawyer, appeared at MCMC headquarters here today to assist in the investigation.
At the same time, MCMC seized one mobile phone and one SIM card believed to have been used to upload the misleading content. The seizure was carried out under Section 248 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, jail of up to two years, or both upon conviction.
In a media statement issued today, MCMC stressed that it views any abuse of social media and digital platforms to spread false information seriously, especially content that can confuse the public and disrupt public order.
“The Commission will continue to take firm enforcement action against any party that violates the law and jeopardises public peace,” the statement read.
This marks the latest in a series of investigations by MCMC into the viral diesel-to-Philippines rumour that has been circulating on social media.
