CYBERJAYA, 7 OCTOBER 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today held a engagement session with e-commerce platform providers, as well as relevant ministries and government agencies, to coordinate joint actions in strengthening consumer protection and the security of the country’s e-commerce ecosystem.
The session follows public concerns regarding user safety and legal compliance in the e-commerce marketplace. This effort aligns with the emphasis by the Minister of Communications, YB Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil, on the need to enhance regulatory oversight through strategic cooperation between ministries, enforcement agencies, and platform providers.
Key Focus Areas and Outcomes
During the engagement session, several priority areas were discussed:
- Strengthening Regulation and Platform Accountability:
- E-commerce platforms were urged to enhance seller identity verification processes.
- Platform providers must ensure that all products listed comply with legal requirements and standards set by relevant regulatory authorities.
- Increase technology-driven monitoring to detect and promptly remove illicit, dangerous, or non-compliant product listings.
- Market Level-Playing Field and SME Support:
- Establishing a balanced business environment between online marketplaces and physical brick-and-mortar retail businesses.
- Addressing feedback from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the retail sector regarding the impact of e-commerce growth, including its implications for the local courier industry.
- Inter-Agency Collaboration Mechanism:
- Establishing a more structured cooperation mechanism to enable effective investigations and enforcement actions by relevant agencies according to their respective legal jurisdictions.

MCMC will continue its coordination efforts with all stakeholders to implement practical follow-up measures toward building a safer, fairer, and more trusted e-commerce ecosystem.
