PUTRAJAYA June 29, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today chaired a meeting of the National Cyber Security Committee to review the evolving landscape of cyber threats and strengthen Malaysia’s preparedness and resilience in the digital domain.
The high-level discussions focused on the rapid development of new-generation frontier artificial intelligence (AI) models, including Anthropic’s Claude Mythos, and their implications for national cybersecurity.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Anwar highlighted that these technological advancements require Malaysia to act more swiftly and strategically in building its own technological capabilities.
“I emphasize that Malaysia must accelerate its mastery of strategic technologies so that we can develop local technologies pioneered by local expertise,” the Prime Minister said. “At the same time, technological development must be aligned with the integrity of the nation’s values, culture, and identity.”
The meeting placed strong emphasis on developing national cryptographic capabilities as a foundational element for protecting data, strategic communications, and Malaysia’s digital sovereignty in the era of artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
Other key topics included efforts to strengthen protection of the National Critical Information Infrastructure (NCII), improve preparedness against post-quantum threats (PQC), and address emerging risks such as the misuse of AI technologies.
Anwar noted that in a world increasingly driven by technology and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity serves as a critical pillar for digital sovereignty, national progress, and competitiveness. “The ability to protect data, systems, and critical infrastructure will be among the key determinants of Malaysia’s strength in the future,” he stated.
The Prime Minister’s remarks reflect Malaysia’s ongoing push under the MADANI framework to enhance digital resilience while prioritizing homegrown innovation and alignment with national values.
