KULAI, 14 Aug 2026 — DAP Johor is giving full freedom to its more than 400 delegates to decide the party’s direction at the special national conference this Sunday, party chairman Teo Nie Ching said today.
Teo, who is also Kulai MP and Deputy Communications Minister, said each representative is free to make their own decision based on their personal views and understanding of the party’s path, without any state-level directive.
“We do not have a fixed position in Johor because this is a vote. So we are giving freedom to the delegates or conference representatives this Sunday to make the decision,” she said after an event involving MADANI school allocations at SK Murni Jaya here.
She added that a dialogue session would be held on Thursday with DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke to explain the issue, but the freedom for individual delegates remains.
“I believe they will make the best decision for the party’s direction and for the country. DAP Johor will abide by whatever decision is made,” Teo said.
Johor has a relatively high number of delegates among the states, though not the highest (Selangor, Perak and Penang have more). Teo expressed confidence that the Johor representatives, who were chosen by their branches, understand the party’s principles and struggle.
The special national conference on 16 August at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre will see 4,264 delegates from 1,704 branches vote by secret ballot on a motion — to be tabled by Anthony Loke — on whether DAP should remain in the Unity Government until the end of the current term or leave.
The decision comes after DAP and Pakatan Harapan faced setbacks in the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections. The party has emphasised that the vote rests solely with the delegates and that the Central Executive Committee is not imposing an official stance, in line with its internal democratic practices.
