PETALING JAYA, May 23, 2025 — Malaysia has taken a significant step toward building an AI-ready workforce with the launch of the MyMahir National AI Council for Industry (MyMahir–NAICI), a collaborative initiative between Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) and MyDIGITAL Corporation’s National AI Office (NAIO). The council aims to align AI talent development with industry needs, driving Malaysia’s digital transformation.

The council’s inaugural meeting, held today, marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TalentCorp and MyDIGITAL, witnessed figurative by Minister of Human Resources Steven Sim Chee Keong and Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo. The initiative focuses on four pillars: AI talent development, industry integration, policy and funding alignment, and stakeholder governance.
“The question isn’t whether AI will replace jobs, but whether we can empower Malaysians to adapt to it,” said Steven Sim. “MyMahir–NAICI ensures our workforce is AI-ready through a coordinated, nationwide approach.”
Gobind added, “This council bridges innovation and implementation, with NAIO driving demand and TalentCorp building the talent supply.”
The council is supported by key tools, including the MyMahir Impact Study, which projects that 620,000 jobs (18% of Malaysia’s formal sector) will be impacted by AI within three to five years, while identifying 60 emerging roles in AI, digital, green, and deep tech sectors. The MyMahir.my platform integrates the AI Readiness Index (AIRI) to help companies assess and address AI capability gaps, with pilot programs testing real-world industry solutions.
Thomas Mathew, TalentCorp’s Group CEO, emphasized the council’s role in linking workforce strategies with industry insights, while Adrian Marcellus, CEO of MyDIGITAL, highlighted NAIO’s focus on ethical AI deployment and workforce foresight. The AI Implementation Monitoring Unit (AI-IMU) will track progress and refine sectoral plans based on feedback.
The initiative aligns with national priorities like the Madani Economy, NIMP 2030, and the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, positioning Malaysia as a regional AI leader. For more details, visit www.mymahir.my.
