Malaysia, France Forge New Chapter in Strategic Partnership

PARIS, July 4, 2025 — Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a landmark meeting with French Prime Minister Bayrou, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between Malaysia and France.

The discussions focused on deepening cooperation in high-value sectors, including aerospace, semiconductors, automotive, clean energy, defense, education, and technical and vocational training (TVET). Both leaders expressed optimism about advancing shared goals for sustainable growth and economic transformation.

Malaysia commended France’s support for its energy transition and economic ambitions, highlighting the active involvement of French companies such as ENGIE, Total, and Thales. Anwar also underscored the importance of Airbus fulfilling its commitment to deliver A330 Neo aircraft to the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), ensuring operational continuity and efficient investments.

AirAsia’s confidence in French technology was noted, with its commitment to acquiring Airbus aircraft further solidifying aviation industry ties between the two nations.

As Malaysia’s fourth-largest trading partner in the European Union, France plays a pivotal role in Malaysia’s economic landscape. Anwar expressed confidence that this partnership will continue to thrive, aligning with mutual aspirations for inclusive and sustainable progress.

The Malaysian Prime Minister extended an invitation to PM Bayrou for an official visit to Malaysia, aiming to further cement the robust relationship between the two countries.
