July 6, 2025 – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil is leading the Malaysian delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society-20 High-Level Event (WSIS-20), held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 7 to 11, 2025. This participation underscores Malaysia’s ongoing MADANI efforts to strengthen the national communications technology ecosystem.

The involvement in WSIS-20 brings strategic benefits, including global recognition of Malaysia’s leadership in rural internet access, education, and communication technologies. It also aims to enhance ICT literacy among citizens in line with the MADANI framework’s sustainability goals.
Malaysia will showcase key initiatives such as the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) and the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) at the summit, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in communication technology transformation.
Organized by the United Nations, WSIS serves as a global platform for leaders to advance ICT for development, focusing on 11 key areas including infrastructure, capacity building, cybersecurity, and supportive environments. The WSIS Awards, which recognize high-impact tech projects, have honored 234 winners and 648 champions since 2012.
During WSIS-20, Datuk Fahmi is scheduled to hold over 10 bilateral meetings with counterparts from the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Somalia, Greece, Russia, and Algeria, as well as a session with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
This event highlights Malaysia’s commitment to driving technological progress on the global stage.
