PUTRAJAYA, April 18 — The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) today announced the Modal Usahawan dan Rangsangan Ekonomi India (MUDRA) package, committing more than RM220 million to strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives owned by the Indian community in Malaysia.
Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the 2026 allocation marks a RM60 million increase from the approximately RM160 million disbursed in 2025 for Indian community MSMEs. He noted that the boost also reflects the strong positive response to previous KUSKOP financing schemes.
The MUDRA initiative will be rolled out through five agencies under KUSKOP as follows:
- TEKUN Nasional: Skim Pembangunan Usahawan Masyarakat India (SPUMI) — RM120 million
- Bank Rakyat: Skim Bank Rakyat Indian Entrepreneur Financing-i (BRIEF-i) — RM15 million
- SME Bank: Skim Pembiayaan Vanigham — RM50 million
- Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM): Dana Program Pemerkasaan Usahawan Wanita India (PENN) — RM27 million
- Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM): RM11 million (Bakti MADANI: RM1 million; Tabung Modal Pusingan SKM (TMPSKM): RM10 million)
As of 31 March 2026, the initiative has already shown strong performance, with RM33.48 million in funding approved and direct benefits reaching 1,805 Indian community entrepreneurs across the country.
Sim stressed that MUDRA goes beyond short-term financial aid. “It is a strategic move to enhance the competitiveness of Indian community MSMEs, ensuring their businesses remain sustainable amid global economic uncertainties,” he said. “KUSKOP remains committed to building an inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.”
The package forms part of the ministry’s broader efforts to create a holistic and supportive environment for entrepreneurship that drives inclusive socio-economic growth in the country.
