KUALA LUMPUR, May 1, 2026 — UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has delivered a heartfelt address commemorating the party’s 80th anniversary, urging members to preserve its historic contributions and pass on a strong legacy to future generations.
In a 1-minute-49-second video message posted on his official X account today, the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry reflected on UMNO’s long journey since its founding on 11 May 1946. Speaking in a red UMNO shirt emblazoned with the party logo, Johari highlighted the organisation’s countless achievements in building Malaysia’s political strength and national development.
“UMNO has countless [contributions] … and has finally reached this stage in terms of political power,” he said, adding that the party “must” ensure its legacy is upheld at both state and divisional levels.
Johari concluded with a direct appeal: “I urge all UMNO members…” to remain committed to the party’s ideals so that a solid foundation can be left for the next generation.
The message carries the theme “From Struggle to Legacy” and serves as an early commemoration ahead of the official 80th anniversary celebration on 11 May 2026. UMNO, one of the oldest political parties in Southeast Asia, remains a key player in Malaysia’s political landscape.
The video has been shared widely by party supporters as the movement prepares to mark eight decades of service to the nation.
