WASHINGTON, November 2, 2026 – The United States will bring together delegations from Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11 for talks on ending Moscow’s war against Ukraine, US envoy Steve Witkoff said on Monday, according to Reuters.
BRICS News reported the development in a post on X, saying: “US, Russia, and Ukraine to hold talks in Abu Dhabi, UAE next week, Reuters reports.”
In a social media post, Witkoff said the new discussions in the United Arab Emirates capital would cover “post-war security agreements, de-escalation, humanitarian measures, and ending the war”, Reuters reported.
Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the lead US negotiators, are expected to represent the United States in Abu Dhabi, a senior US official told Reuters. The last US-mediated trilateral peace talks took place in February.
Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a new round of trilateral talks after meeting Witkoff in St Petersburg two weeks ago, in the latest US push to stop Europe’s bloodiest conflict since the Second World War, triggered by Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. US negotiators have been seeking a breakthrough before winter sets in.
The US official said American negotiators would also meet at the working level this week in Brussels with representatives from France, Germany, Britain, the European Union and NATO to discuss “Ukraine’s security guarantees, Europe’s future security framework, and economic support for Ukraine’s reconstruction”.
The official said the meetings built on recent discussions among the parties and “reflect President Trump’s continued efforts to reach a lasting peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine”. Ukraine and Russia, however, remain far apart on the terms of any possible peace deal, although Trump has recently intensified pressure on Kyiv to strike some kind of agreement.
The announcement comes as fighting continues. According to The Guardian, Russian forces on Monday bombed a school used as an aid distribution point in a village in Ukraine’s south-eastern Zaporizhzhia region, killing 26 people, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the country’s emergency services. Russia’s defence ministry said on Tuesday that its forces had launched a large overnight strike on Ukrainian energy facilities in the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, Interfax reported, while a Ukrainian drone attack damaged an oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl, injuring two employees, according to the local governor. The reports could not immediately be verified.
Ukraine has also accused Russia of using last week’s US-backed six-day humanitarian pause around the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky, in the southern Kherson region, to rotate troops and strengthen its positions. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said adjusting positions during a ceasefire was “standard practice”. Nearly 800 people were evacuated from the town, according to US first lady Melania Trump, who the White House says brokered the truce.
Separately, about 2,800 troops from 10 European countries are due to stage the first exercise of a new France- and UK-led Multinational Force – Ukraine in south-east Poland from November 9 to 22. The force has no offensive mission and would only be deployed once a ceasefire is agreed.
