PAGOH, April 20, 2026 – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today officiated the Kempen Internet Selamat (Safe Internet Campaign) at the Hab Pendidikan Tinggi Pagoh (HPTP) in Johor, using a peer-to-peer approach to boost cyber safety awareness among youths.
The ongoing initiative by the Ministry of Communications through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) aims to empower young people to tackle digital threats.
A total of 80 students and 20 facilitators from the Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP) of higher learning institutions around Pagoh took part. The participating institutions include Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Politeknik Tun Syed Nasir (PTSN). The participants will act as peer messengers spreading cyber safety messages to fellow students.
The campaign focuses on increasing youth awareness of online safety, covering key issues such as digital scams, cyberbullying, the spread of fake news and the risks of oversharing personal data.
The programme featured interactive sessions led by MPP facilitators. A highlight was the skit titled “Ops Kantoikan Scammer: Aku Bukan Mangsa Kau!”, which delivers a relaxed yet impactful lesson on scammers’ tactics and prevention steps.
The peer-to-peer method is considered more relatable to the target group, helping to enhance the effectiveness of the awareness drive.
As of March 31, 2026, MCMC has conducted 47 Kempen Internet Selamat programmes at higher education institutions nationwide, reaching 23,196 students.
Also present were Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and MCMC Chief Executive Officer Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.
