KUALA LUMPUR October 2, 2026 — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has urged the public, content creators and social media users to give Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad space and time, after the former prime minister’s family asked for room to breathe amid online attention.
In a post on X on Friday evening, Fahmi said the family had already requested that Tun Dr Mahathir be given space and time. He appealed to influencers and ordinary users not to turn every development into content.
“Pihak keluarga sudah meminta supaya Tun Dr Mahathir diberi ruang dan masa,” Fahmi wrote — the family has already asked that Tun Dr Mahathir be given space and time.
Addressing content creators, influencers and social media users, he said not everything needs to be chased for content. “Tak semua perkara perlu dikejar untuk dijadikan content,” he posted.
Fahmi closed with a short call for restraint and manners: give space, give time, and observe adab. “Beri ruang. Beri masa. Jaga adab,” he wrote.
The remarks come as Tun Dr Mahathir remains a figure of intense public and online interest in Malaysia. Fahmi’s message framed the family’s request as a reason for the digital community to step back rather than amplify every update for clicks or engagement.
He did not elaborate on the family’s medical or personal circumstances in the post, focusing instead on the appeal for space, time and respectful conduct online.
The statement was shared on Fahmi’s official X account @fahmi_fadzil, accompanied by a video.
