SEBERANG JAYA, PENANG June 19, 2026 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today attended the Program Permukiman Media Malaysia 2.0, organised by Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia (GKMM) as part of preparations for the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2026 celebrations.
Upon arriving in Penang, Fahmi went straight to the programme, where he delivered a strong message to media practitioners on maintaining high standards in journalism.
“Media practitioners carry a great responsibility to deliver reports that are accurate, authentic, and balanced,” he said. He stressed that public trust in media institutions must be preserved through strict adherence to journalistic ethics and a commitment to truth.
The minister also announced financial contributions to various media clubs and GKMM to support journalists and media workers across the country in carrying out their activities.
The event aligns with the HAWANA 2026 theme “Media Berintegriti, Teras Kredibiliti” (Media with Integrity, the Pillar of Credibility), which emphasises integrity as the foundation for credible and ethical media practices under the Malaysia MADANI framework.
HAWANA 2026, to be held in Penang, is expected to gather around 1,000 media practitioners from Malaysia and abroad. The main celebration, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is scheduled for 20 June 2026 at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Arena Butterworth.
Fahmi’s attendance at today’s programme marks the start of a series of activities leading up to the national event, highlighting the government’s support for a professional and trusted media industry.
