SHAH ALAM, October 31, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has prayed for the speedy recovery of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, after the palace announced that His Royal Highness had contracted Influenza A.
In a post shared on X on Saturday night, Anwar wrote that he prayed to Allah that “Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Selangor Darul Ehsan, be swiftly granted healing and good health, and always be under His protection and abundant mercy.” The post carried a photograph of the Sultan.
Anwar shared the prayer while on a working visit to Kelantan, hours after Istana Alam Shah issued a statement on the Ruler’s health. Earlier that day, he had launched the Kelantan Usahawan Bangkit Scheme in Kota Bharu and visited Pondok Lubok Tapah in Pasir Mas.
Fever and weakness since Friday
According to the palace statement, the Sultan’s personal physicians, Datuk Dr Anuar Onah and Datuk Dr Tan Hui Meng, first detected symptoms on the morning of Friday, October 30, when the Ruler developed a high fever and physical weakness, The Star reported. The doctors believe His Royal Highness may have contracted the infection while attending public events and meeting members of the public, including in outdoor areas.
“Praise be to God, His Royal Highness’ condition is gradually improving, although he is still experiencing a fever,” the statement said. The physicians have advised the Sultan to rest and not attend any events for five to seven days to allow a full recovery.
Silver Jubilee ceremonies moved to November 7
Following the development, the Istiadat Menjunjung Duli and the Selangor State Honours Investiture Ceremony, which had been scheduled for Sunday, November 1, in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Sultan’s reign, have been postponed to Saturday, November 7, the New Straits Times reported. The palace asked all parties involved to take note of the new date and thanked them for their cooperation.
The statement also called on the public to pray that Allah grants the Sultan a speedy recovery and lasting health and well-being.
Sultan Sharafuddin was proclaimed the ninth Sultan of Selangor on November 22, 2001, following the death of his father, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, according to the Selangor state government portal. The state’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, marking 25 years of his reign, began in late September and include religious gatherings, the investiture of state honours and the Istiadat Menjunjung Duli, the ceremony at which subjects pay homage to the Ruler.
Anwar was among the national leaders who congratulated the Sultan on the Silver Jubilee of his reign on October 25. Sultan Sharafuddin’s father, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, also served as the 11th Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1999 until his death in 2001, which led to his son’s accession to the Selangor throne.
