MUAR, June 15, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that Malaysia’s economic development and technological advancements must directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly fishermen, farmers, and rural families, rather than focusing solely on large-scale investments and modernisation.
Speaking at a hi-tea event with the fishing community, farmers, and local residents at Pantai Leka Food Court here today, Anwar stressed the importance of inclusive policies rooted in compassion and justice.
“A nation is not elevated in status merely because of grandeur or rapid technological progress. It will only rise when the fruits of development reach and are felt by those who need it most — the fishermen braving the seas, farmers tilling the rice fields, and families placing high hopes on their children’s future,” he said in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
He added: “Our duty is not only to attract investments and grow the economy, but to ensure every policy is grounded in compassion (ihsan), justice, and concern for the majority of the people.”
Anwar reaffirmed his commitment under the Madani government to building a Malaysia that is not only prosperous but also humane, fair, and spirited. “Insya-Allah, as long as this trust is shouldered, we will continue striving for that vision,” he said.
Photos from the event showed Anwar engaging warmly with locals, taking selfies, embracing residents, and interacting closely with the community.
He urged leaders and cabinet members to regularly engage directly with the people on the ground to understand their struggles and ensure no one is left behind in the country’s progress.
The visit to Muar underscores Pakatan Harapan’s ongoing focus on rural and grassroots welfare as part of its inclusive development agenda.
