JITRA, KEDAH, Malaysia. July 25, 2025 (5:15 PM MYT) — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today declared an unwavering stance against drug abuse during the 2025 Anti-Drug Day commemoration at Dataran Darulaman, Jitra. Describing the event as more than a symbolic gesture, he emphasized it as a national commitment to combat the drug menace.

The government has allocated over RM480 million to strengthen the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) operations and rehabilitation centers nationwide, with an additional RM500 million sought to bolster these efforts. Highlighting the severity of the issue, the minister noted that over 80% of drug supplies enter via maritime routes, prompting enhanced maritime asset requests, supported by Prime Minister YAB’s special attention.
Urging state leadership, including the Kedah State Government, to collaborate with the Home Ministry, Saifuddin called for solutions to address Kedah’s position among the top four states with high drug addiction rates. “This is not about politics—it’s about shared responsibility,” he stressed.
He also endorsed the call by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Kedah to empower mosques and Friday sermons as preventive channels. “Together, we must drive a wave of change,” he said, urging the public to turn the occasion into a national movement against drugs rather than a mere ceremonial end.
The minister concluded with a poignant metaphor: “Let the manggar flower not be the closing chapter, but the opening of a national campaign to eradicate drugs.”
