MCMC Investigates TikTok User for Uploading False and Offensive Content Targeting PM Anwar

CYBERJAYA, Malaysia,  July 22, 2025 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into a TikTok user suspected of posting two pieces of false and highly offensive content targeting Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The content is believed to be a reaction to issues surrounding immoral activities in the country and the Prime Minister’s official statement regarding public appreciation incentives. In another post, the individual is also suspected of making false and offensive claims related to the Prime Minister’s official overseas visit.

To aid the investigation, MCMC recorded a statement from the suspect at its Cyberjaya headquarters on Monday, July 21, 2025. Authorities also seized one mobile phone and one SIM card for further analysis.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both upon conviction.

MCMC emphasized that it will not tolerate the misuse of social media platforms to spread offensive or baseless content and will take firm action to maintain public order and national harmony.
