WASHINTON D.C Oct 15, 2026 – US President Donald Trump said Thursday the United States will not use nuclear weapons or deploy ground troops against Iran.
Speaking in a Newsmax interview, Trump responded to reports that the Pentagon is preparing options that include the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, known as the “Mother of All Bombs.” He stressed the weapon is conventional.
“The mother of all bombs is not nuclear. It’s not nuclear at all. This is just an extremely large bomb,” Trump said. “No, I wouldn’t use nuclear. We don’t have to.”
Asked about ground troops for any operation against targets such as the fortified Pickaxe Mountain site, he replied: “No, I don’t see that.”
The comments come amid an ongoing US-Iran conflict. Washington has already carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure. Trump previously announced a temporary pause in further action until after the November 3 congressional elections while insisting Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon. US officials have continued developing additional conventional strike packages against energy and nuclear sites.
Trump also said the United States is engaged in discussions with Russia and China on nuclear issues as part of broader efforts to limit proliferation.
