LIVERPOOL, November 6, 2026 – Thierno Barry scored twice and set up a third as Everton came from behind to beat Coventry City 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday night, opening Matchweek 10 of the Premier League.
The result lifted Everton into fifth place in the table ahead of the weekend’s remaining fixtures, the Premier League said on its official X account, and gave David Moyes’s side a third straight win.
After a goalless first half, Coventry took the lead in the 52nd minute when Yann Gboho weaved through challenges and poked the ball past Jordan Pickford for his first goal for the club.
Everton’s response was swift. Barry headed in at the back post from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s cross to level the score, then scored a near-identical header just past the hour mark to put the hosts in front. The Premier League noted that only nine minutes separated Coventry’s opener and Barry’s second goal.
Barry’s second goal was not without controversy. Coventry players felt the ball had come off the striker’s arm, but the Video Assistant Referee found no conclusive evidence of handball and the goal stood, according to Sky Sports. Frank Lampard’s side also had two penalty appeals turned down by VAR either side of half-time, one of them for an alleged hair pull by James Tarkowski.
Barry then turned provider nine minutes from time, sliding a pass through for Dewsbury-Hall, who fired past goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from a tight angle to make it 3-1.
The two goals took Barry’s tally to 10 for the season in all competitions, Everton said. The club added that the win came in Moyes’s 592nd match in charge, equalling the club record set by Harry Catterick.
After the match, Lampard said VAR “didn’t do its job”, according to The Guardian’s live coverage. Coventry, newly promoted to the Premier League, remain two points above the relegation zone, Sky Sports reported.
Everton head into the international break in buoyant form after the victory on Merseyside.
