MELAKA, November 5, 2026 – Pakatan Harapan Melaka chairman Adly Zahari has told the coalition’s candidates to avoid provocation during the 16th Melaka state election campaign and to put forward fact-based arguments when they differ with opponents.
Speaking at Harapan’s daily media briefing at the PH main operations room in Bukit Baru, Adly, who is contesting Bukit Katil, said candidates’ priority now was to meet voters, listen to problems raised and understand what mattered to them.
“I do not deny that our candidates are not perfect across the board. But we will ensure our candidates do not provoke anyone, even when issues are raised. If there are differences, put them forward with arguments,” he said, according to Bernama’s report published on November 5, 2026.
Using the campaign word “sakau” as an example, Adly said the term might be seen as provocative, but the underlying issues of accountability and transparency should still be discussed because national developments also affected Melaka’s people. That framing is Adly’s view as reported by Bernama.
Response to Hadi’s CSA remarks
Adly also criticised PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s comparison of the Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) with a “Dajjal” approach. Bernama reported that Abdul Hadi, in a social media post on Wednesday, described the CSA as a “Dajjal” approach at the end of times that treated power as something to cling to rather than a trust.
“Does PAS want to keep defending label politics? PH Melaka rejects using religious sentiment to frighten the people and stresses that Muslim brotherhood, respect for fellow human beings and justice for all are the basis of Malaysia’s harmony,” Adly said, as quoted by Bernama. He added that voters should judge political agreements by their content and arguments, not by extreme religious labels.
According to Bernama, the Madani government signed the CSA on October 29, 2026 with six Bersatu members of parliament led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and seven other MPs, including Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. Besides supporting passage of the Supply Bill 2027 (Budget 2027), the agreement also sets out support for institutional reforms the government intends to table. Those details are as reported by Bernama; Life News Agency does not endorse either side’s characterisation of the pact.
According to Bernama, the Election Commission has set early voting for November 10, 2026 and polling day for November 14, 2026 for Melaka’s 28 state seats. Adly’s remarks form part of Harapan’s campaign messaging in the middle of the official campaign period.
