KUALA LUMPUR, November 5, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) on being named Brand of the Year in the Energy-Power category (National Tier) at the World Branding Awards 2026–2027.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday night, November 4, Anwar said the national electricity utility had played an important role over its history in powering the country. “For 77 years, TNB has played an important role in supplying electricity and supporting the country’s economic growth and development,” he wrote in Malay.
He said the recognition reflected the people’s confidence in TNB’s contribution to the nation’s progress, while also bringing honour to Malaysia’s name on the international stage.
“May this achievement be a catalyst for TNB to continue improving the quality of its services, strengthening energy infrastructure and expanding the use of renewable energy for a sustainable future for Malaysia,” Anwar said. The post was tagged #MalaysiaMADANI and #YakinMADANI and carried a photograph from the awards ceremony. Bernama also carried his message, reporting that he described TNB’s 77-year role as pivotal in supplying electricity, supporting economic growth and contributing to national development.
According to Astro Awani, the award was presented in London. TNB chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid received it from World Branding Forum chairman Richard Rowles, at a ceremony also attended by TNB Group Chief Corporate Communications Officer Samsul Ariffin Zainuddin. TNB described the accolade as the highest global recognition, saying it strengthened its position as a homegrown Malaysian brand that continues to grow and win recognition worldwide.
In a social media post quoted by Astro Awani, TNB said the recognition, which also involved consumer voting, reflected the support of millions of Malaysians and the dedication of about 35,000 TNB employees. “Thank you, Malaysia! Your trust continues to inspire us to provide better service and build a brighter future for all,” the company said.
TNB added that, in line with Malaysia’s energy transition aspirations, it would continue to work towards a more sustainable energy future through renewable energy development, grid modernisation and green energy investment abroad.
Astro Awani reported that this is the sixth time TNB has won the award, after previous wins in 2014, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2025. The World Branding Awards are organised by the World Branding Forum, a London-based non-profit organisation, and winners are chosen through a process that combines brand valuation, market research and public voting, according to Business Today. The forum describes the awards as one of the world’s most respected brand recognition programmes, celebrating leading global, regional and national brands.
TNB’s previous win, for 2025–2026, was presented in Osaka, Japan. In that edition, 1,092 brands were nominated and fewer than 100 achieved Brand of the Year status, with public voting drawing more than 91,000 consumers across 66 countries, Business Today reported. TNB serves more than 11 million customers nationwide.
