MELAKA, Sept 22, 2026 — Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh on Tuesday announced the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), effective Wednesday, 23 September 2026, to make way for the 16th state election.
Ab Rauf said he had an audience with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam to report the position of the assembly and seek consent for its dissolution.
“Tuan Yang Terutama Tun consented that the Melaka DUN be dissolved effective tomorrow, 23 September 2026,” he told a special press conference at Seri Negeri after chairing the final State Executive Council (MMKN) meeting.
The move was made in accordance with the law and hands the next steps to the Election Commission (SPR), which is expected to set the writ, nomination and polling dates.
The 28-seat assembly’s current term was due to expire on 27 December 2026. The dissolution ends the present administration and returns the mandate to voters.
Present at the announcement were DUN Speaker Datuk Wira Ibrahim Durum, State Secretary Datuk Wira Salhah Salleh and members of the state executive council.
In the last state election in November 2021, Barisan Nasional won 21 seats, Pakatan Harapan five and Perikatan Nasional two.
The caretaker government will remain in place until a new administration is formed after the polls.
