LOS ANGELES Sept 15, 2026 – Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have shared the first look at the colorful vinyl editions of their long-awaited collaborative album The Sea of Emotion, due November 6 via earMUSIC.
Satriani posted photos of the multi-color pressings on Monday, showing swirling blue, green, and yellow vinyl discs alongside the album artwork. The cover features silhouettes of two guitarists filled with cosmic and landscape imagery. Pre-orders are now open, including a black 2LP gatefold edition on 180-gram vinyl.
The 10-track record marks the first full studio album from the pair, who have known each other since 1973. Vai, then 13, began taking guitar lessons from 17-year-old Satriani on Long Island. They have played together many times over the decades, including on G3 tours, but never completed an original album until now. “We’ve been planning this since 1973. Just unconsciously,” Vai said.
The album title comes from a field near Carle Place High School that the two teenagers nicknamed “The Sea of Emotion.” They would sit there at night talking about music and life. The three-part title suite sits at the heart of the record; Part 3 incorporates restored audio of the two jamming as teenagers.
The tracklist is:
- Mayhem
- Bronco Freight Train
- Dancing
- The Feeling I Know
- Zoot Suit Riot
- Old Sins Have Long Shadows
- I Wanna Play My Guitar (feat. Glenn Hughes)
- The Sea Of Emotion Pt. 1
- The Sea Of Emotion Pt. 2
- The Sea Of Emotion Pt. 3 / Reflections On A Year And A Half
“Mayhem,” the latest single, is already streaming. Earlier singles include “The Sea of Emotion, Pt. 1,” “I Wanna Play My Guitar,” and “Dancing.” Satriani has said the biggest surprise of the sessions was how differently the two write: “That’s what made the project so fun and interesting.” Vai called the finished album “a beautiful coming together of me and my friend in a very intimate musical way.”
The SATCHVAI Band has already toured Europe and the United States in 2025–2026, mixing new material with catalog favorites. Fans can pre-order The Sea of Emotion now at satchvai.lnk.to/TheSeaOfEmotion.
