PETALING JAYA, Aug 7 2026 — Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has launched a programme to help small traders in Sungai Way secure legal business licences more easily, bypassing some traditional bureaucratic hurdles.
In a post on X early Friday, the Damansara MP and DAP national chairman announced the Program Pemutihan Kawasan Perniagaan Sungai Way. Under the initiative, eligible operators can obtain a two-year business licence without first needing local council (KM) approval or a full building plan.
The programme specifically targets home-based traders, retirees, sellers of food and kuih, neighbourhood service providers, and long-time informal operators who previously had no clear path to formal licensing.
“Program Pemutihan Kawasan Perniagaan Sungai Way bantu peniaga dapatkan lesen sah dengan lebih mudah!” Gobind wrote. He added that the move would strengthen the local economy while ensuring businesses operate legally and safely.
A video accompanying the post shows an engagement session in Sungai Way where officials briefed participants on requirements for temporary licences. Presentation slides highlighted conditions such as public liability insurance, premises photographs, and a two-year trial period. Maps displayed at the event indicated 93 premises in the area are involved in the legalisation process.
Gobind, who represents the P106 Damansara parliamentary constituency, framed the effort as support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the locality.
The programme forms part of ongoing efforts by local authorities and federal representatives to formalise informal economic activities in the Petaling Jaya area.
