KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received a courtesy call from Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, who began a two-day official visit to Malaysia.
In a statement, Anwar said the visit coincides with the Third Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) between Malaysia and Cambodia, scheduled for Aug 4 in Kuala Lumpur. It also serves as an important platform ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both nations to further strengthen strategic cooperation in trade, investment, the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), the halal industry, food security and human capital development, while also enhancing efforts to combat cross-border crime, Anwar said.
As ASEAN member states, Malaysia and Cambodia share the responsibility of preserving peace, strengthening regional unity and realising the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 for a more prosperous future for the people of the region, he added.
“I hope Malaysia-Cambodia relations will continue to be strengthened, thereby opening more opportunities for cooperation that will bring mutual benefits to both countries and their peoples,” Anwar said.
Prak Sokhonn arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport earlier today. He is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and co-chair the JCBC meeting, which resumes after a 20-year gap since the previous session in 2006.
Bilateral trade between the two countries grew 27.4 per cent year-on-year to RM5 billion in 2025, while Malaysia ranks as the third-largest foreign investor in Cambodia with cumulative investments of US$3.20 billion as of 2024.
