TEHRAN August 1, 2026 – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation Saturday evening with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi to discuss the latest developments in ongoing negotiations related to the US-Iran conflict.
In a statement posted on X, Fidan said: “Tonight, I held a phone conversation with my Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. In the conversation, we discussed the latest status of the ongoing negotiation process. Türkiye will continue its efforts to end the conflicts in our region and establish lasting peace.”
The call comes as Iran intensifies diplomatic outreach to regional partners amid concerns of possible renewed US or Israeli military action. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also spoke by phone with Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister and Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir.
According to Iranian statements, Araghchi warned against any “adventurous action” by the United States and stressed that Iran is prepared to respond decisively to any aggression. He cautioned that any attack by the US or Israel, or participation by regional countries in such actions, would be met with a “decisive and proportionate response.” Araghchi also discussed the risks of escalating tensions and insecurity across the region while reiterating Iran’s readiness to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The contacts reflect Turkey’s continued role as a regional mediator following months of intermittent military exchanges, ceasefire attempts, and diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran earlier in 2026. Ankara has repeatedly emphasized the need for lasting peace and has engaged both sides to prevent further escalation.
