Formula 1 has shared thrilling onboard footage of Max Verstappen’s aggressive double overtake during the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring, showcasing one of the standout moments from the race.
In the clip posted by the official @F1 account on Tuesday, Verstappen’s Red Bull can be seen diving up the inside into Turn 1, passing both Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari and Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson in one decisive move. The Dutchman executed the pass shortly after Hamilton had undercut him during the first round of pit stops, reclaiming position with a late-braking maneuver that left little room for error.
Verstappen later described the move as his only realistic chance to get past the Ferrari on a circuit notoriously difficult for overtaking. “I saw the opportunity. It was my only one. I just went for it. We’re good on the brakes, so that helped, but it was all under control,” he said after the race.
The overtake proved pivotal in Verstappen’s charge to second place behind race winner Lando Norris (McLaren). Despite ongoing struggles with the Red Bull’s balance and a car that was not among the fastest that weekend, Verstappen held off Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli to secure the podium. A bold late-race strategy switch to soft tyres for a long final stint further helped him seal the result.
Hamilton, who finished fifth after a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane, admitted he hadn’t seen Verstappen coming while dealing with the backmarker. The move drew praise across the paddock, with Antonelli reacting with an audible “oh my god” when rewatching the highlights.
