PUTRAJAYA June 15, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that the Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (TERAJU) will be transferred from the Ministry of Economy to the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM). The move aims to enhance monitoring of Bumiputera development programs, especially the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35).
Anwar, who chaired the second meeting of the Majlis Ekonomi Bumiputera (MEB) for 2026, described the decision as a continuation of efforts to empower Bumiputera institutions. This follows the recent centralization of Pelaburan Hartanah Bumiputera (PHB) and Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas) under Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputera (YPB).
PuTERA35 Progress at 64.6%
As of now, PuTERA35 has achieved 64.6% implementation, with 160 out of 493 planned programs successfully completed. Anwar said this reflects the MADANI government’s ongoing commitment to translating Bumiputera development agendas into tangible outcomes that directly benefit the people.
Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs) and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) spent RM49.2 billion last year on procurement from Bumiputera vendors and suppliers. For 2026, GLICs have committed RM2 billion in investments for Bumiputera businesses — up from RM1.3 billion previously. This includes the Larian Ganti Bumiputera initiative to expand financing and investment access for Bumiputera entrepreneurs at all growth stages.
Khazanah Nasional Berhad will also launch the Dana Ciptawan fund with a RM200 million allocation to support mid-tier Bumiputera companies, helping them scale up, compete, and penetrate larger markets.
Education Focus
The MEB meeting also reviewed resolutions from the Bumiputera Education Congress held on May 1, 2026. Further study will be conducted on strategic proposals, including the possible establishment of a National Tahfiz Council, to strengthen Bumiputera education and human capital development more comprehensively.
The transfer of TERAJU to the Prime Minister’s Department is expected to provide stronger central oversight and coordination for PuTERA35, which serves as a key pillar of the MADANI Economy framework aimed at closing economic gaps and positioning Malaysia as a regional leader.
