PUTRAJAYA May 15, 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today chaired a high-level meeting with cluster chairs of the Bumiputera Economic Congress (Kongres Ekonomi Bumiputera) to assess the progress and future direction of strategic agendas under the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35).
The session, held in Putrajaya, focused on key areas including education, talent development, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), entrepreneurship, new technologies, community development, and overall public welfare.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Dr Ahmad Zahid emphasised that Bumiputera empowerment cannot be driven in isolation. He called for coordinated efforts across government agencies, educational institutions, industries, Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), the private sector, and society at large to ensure plans deliver tangible benefits and create sustainable opportunities for future generations.
“I believe the Bumiputera empowerment agenda cannot be moved alone. The government, agencies, educational institutions, industry, GLCs, private sector and society must move in tandem so that all planned initiatives truly benefit and open more opportunities for the coming generations,” he said.
Dr Ahmad Zahid added that findings and proposals from the meeting would be further refined to keep the initiatives relevant, sustainable, and capable of strengthening both the Bumiputera community and the nation as a whole.
Background on PuTERA35
Launched on August 19, 2024, PuTERA35 is the government’s comprehensive 11-year plan to boost Bumiputera participation, ownership, and control in the national economy. It encompasses three core areas, 12 growth drivers, and 132 initiatives aimed at creating a more level playing field while aligning with the MADANI economy framework.
The plan is monitored through high-level bodies, including the Bumiputera Economic Council Steering Committee chaired by Dr Ahmad Zahid himself. Earlier reviews have highlighted early gains and the need for more integrated, focused, and structured implementation.
The meeting underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to translating policy into effective action for long-term Bumiputera economic resilience.
