WASHINGTON D.C. – May 1, 2026 – President Donald J. Trump said on Friday that Iran is pushing for a deal following last month’s ceasefire, but the United States is not satisfied with the current proposals.
In remarks filmed outside the White House and shared by the official Rapid Response 47 account, Trump stated: “They want to make a deal, but I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happens.”
He added that Iran is motivated to negotiate because “they have no military left essentially” after U.S. and allied strikes earlier this year.
The comments come amid ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
No further details on the status of negotiations were released by the White House. Third-party mediation efforts are believed to be continuing.
