PENAMPANG, April 28, 2026– Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick has channeled a total contribution of RM70,000 to the Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF) and the Persatuan Pesara Penampang to support community programmes involving language preservation and social welfare in the district.
The Deputy Chief Minister III, who is also Sabah’s Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said he hopes the allocation will help successfully implement the various initiatives planned by both organisations.
“I am channelling RM50,000 from my MP allocation to KLF, in line with my commitment during the International Mother Language Day event in February,” he said.
“Additionally, an early contribution of RM20,000 to the Penampang Retirees’ Association, as per my earlier commitment during a meeting with the association. I hope this funding will assist in carrying out the initiatives to be organised by both bodies,” he added.
The contribution was handed over by the Head of Public Relations of the Penampang MP’s Service Centre, Bryan Matasing, on behalf of Datuk Ewon Benedick at the Penampang MP Service Centre yesterday.
Meanwhile, KLF Chief Executive Officer Rita Lasimbang expressed gratitude for Datuk Ewon’s continued support.
She said the RM50,000 contribution will be used to enhance the Kadazan-English-Malay Webonary platform, which was launched during the International Mother Language Day celebration on 21 February.
“The platform contains more than 30,000 Kadazan entries and nearly 29,000 Malay entries as an effort to address the declining number of Kadazan language speakers in Sabah,” she explained.
Separately, Lawrence Misi, Coordinator Chairman of the Penampang district branch of the Sabah Government Retirees Association, also thanked Datuk Ewon for the contribution received.
He said the RM20,000 allocation will be utilised to successfully carry out various association activities, including organising a programme in conjunction with World Older Persons Day this October.
